Privacy policy

Bindery collects nothing, asks for no permissions, and sends nothing you convert anywhere. Everything below is the detail behind that sentence.

What the app does with your documents

Bindery reads the Markdown files you give it, turns them into one document, and writes that out as a Word file, a PDF or an e‑book. All of that happens on the device itself. The converter is not a service we run and call — it is an ordinary part of the app, and it is why the app is as large as it is.

Diagrams and mathematics are drawn by software that also ships inside the app. Nothing is fetched to render them, and nothing about them is sent anywhere.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifier, and no third-party SDK that performs any of those on our behalf. Beyond the frameworks that draw the interface, the only Apple service the app uses at all is the one that sells it.

Permissions

The app asks for none. Not the microphone, not the camera, not photos, not contacts, not location. You choose a file through the system's own document picker, which hands the app that file and nothing else — which is why there is no prompt to accept and nothing to review later in Settings.

What is saved on your device

Three things, all yours and all local:

• The files you add. A file you choose is copied into the app's own folder so it can be converted, and it stays there until you remove it from the list.
• The documents it makes, written where you can reach them in the Files app.
• A small monthly counter, so the free allowance knows what month it is and how much of it you have used. It records a month and a number. It holds nothing about your documents — not their names, not their contents, not how many there were.

All three live in the app's own storage, are covered by the device's encryption, and are removed when you delete the app. None of them is transmitted anywhere.

Nothing is deleted automatically. Removing a file from the list in the app takes it out of the list; deleting the document it made is yours to do, in Files, when you are finished with it. An app that tidied up your work on a schedule would be a worse app.

The purchase

Bindery Pro is a one‑off purchase sold through the App Store — not a subscription. Apple handles the payment and any refund; we receive Apple's aggregate sales reporting and never learn who bought it. We do not receive your name, your email address, your Apple Account or your payment details.

This is the one part of the app that contacts anything outside your device, and what it contacts is Apple. The app asks the App Store a yes-or-no question about whether this Apple Account has bought it. Apple's own privacy policy governs that exchange. Nothing you convert is involved.

Restoring the purchase on a second device is a button on the same screen, and it asks Apple the same question.

The free allowance

The free tier is bookkeeping, not a lock. It counts pages converted in a calendar month and resets on the first. It is a small file in the app's own storage, it is not reported to us, and it is not a security measure — if it ever fails to read or write, the app gives you the benefit of the doubt rather than refusing to work.

Children

Bindery is a document tool and is not directed at children. Because it collects nothing at all, it holds no information about anyone of any age.

If you contact support

Support is the one place where you can choose to give us something, and it is entirely separate from the app. What we keep when you raise a case — and how the anonymous path works — is set out in the website privacy notice. The app never sends a support request on your behalf.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act, and under the GDPR and similar regimes if you are covered by them, you have rights to access, correct and erase personal information an organisation holds about you. In this app's case those rights have nothing to attach to, because we hold nothing about you. If you have raised a support case and want it erased, quote the case number through the support form and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Bindery ever sends any part of a document anywhere, this policy changes in the same release that introduces it, the app tells you before you can use it, and the claim above is rewritten rather than softened. There is no such feature planned. The version and date at the top of this page are the record.
