A private AI meeting assistant, or a cloud one?

Most AI meeting assistants work in the cloud: the meeting goes to a server, is written up there, and the record is kept for you. Meeting Cue does its work on the iPhone or iPad and keeps nothing from the meeting. An honest account of when each is the right one, from the people who make the second.

A cloud meeting assistant, if you want a record

A cloud meeting assistant usually joins the video call, or listens through an app, and sends the meeting to its servers. What comes back is worth having: a searchable transcript of every meeting, a summary, and a record you can share with the rest of your team. Most handle many languages. If what you want from a meeting is a record that outlives it, that is the right tool, and Meeting Cue is not trying to replace it.

What it costs is that the meeting itself goes to somebody else's computer, and you have only that company's word for what happens to it next: how long it is kept, who can read it, what else it is used for. For many meetings that is a fair trade. For a client's contract, a negotiation or a board paper it may not be yours to make, and some employers do not allow it at all.

Meeting Cue, if the meeting should stay in the room

Meeting Cue does its work on the iPhone or iPad. Speech recognition, the search through your documents and the model that writes the suggestions all run on the device, no meeting content leaves it, and there is no account. Audio, transcript and documents are held in memory, never written to disk, and erased when the session ends. One thing to know in a confidential room: while it listens, the current Immediate suggestion and the Plain English line also show on the Lock Screen, as a Live Activity you can switch off in iOS Settings.

It is built for a different moment, too: during the meeting rather than after it. It reads the documents you brought and suggests the question to ask now and the point to make shortly. What it costs is real. It understands English only. The suggestions need iOS 26 or later on a device that supports Apple Intelligence, with it switched on; below that you get the transcript and the document search, and no suggestions. And there is no record afterwards: at End Session it lists the action items and key points, Copy puts them on the clipboard, and closing the sheet erases them.
